NOYN Newsletter

Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) is New Jersey’s leading advocate of opportunity youth with a body of replicable initiatives that are designed to address youth disconnection. NOYN's work is organized around four key elements of Education, Workforce Development, Policy Advocacy, and Systems Building.

Read the stories below that display how NOYN’s initiatives are working together to re-engage opportunity youth while drastically changing systems that inhibit their success.

In case you missed it, earlier this month NOYN has launched the "Back to School - for Who?" campaign supporting the passage of Assembly bill A398 along with the launch of a new policy brief, “Preventing School Disconnection in NJ." Through Capitol Canary, you can contact legislators about the importance of A398 and preventing school disconnection across New Jersey.

LEAD Charter School had the honor of hosting Senator Vin Gopal for a tour of the Bergen Street campus on September 20th. The senator engaged with members of the LEAD community through classroom visits and through small group discussions with students about education and education-related policy. Senator Gopal later described LEAD's education system as "exemplary" and said LEAD is doing "amazing things."

You can view highlights from his visit on LEAD Charter School's social media pages.

Representatives from YouthBuild USA visited YouthBuild Newark on September 13th for a tour and to meet with YBN students and staff. During their visit, the representatives had the opportunity to see the elements of YouthBuild at work in Newark. We appreciate their partnership in the work we do and look forward to future visits.
