Uneeda Bolt and Screw Co., a New Jersey-based construction material supply company, recently presented Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) with a $1,500 grant as part of its inaugural Founder’s Fund celebration. For more than 60 years, Uneeda Bolt has provided bolts, screws and fasteners to its loyal customers. This year, they’re sharing $5,000 with three community organizations in recognition of its modest origin.

On May 27th, 1954, Ely Klein loaned Ed and Alice Brickman $5,000 to open their new business, Uneeda Bolt and Screw Co., located on 4th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. Over the next 67 years, the Brickmans grew from their first sub-basement store to a 40,000-square-foot facility with a suite of inventory, services and thousands of customers across the nation who depend on their high quality fasteners. Today, Uneeda Bolt and Screw Co. remains a thriving family business, who never forgot its humble beginnings.

Uneeda Bolt and Screw Co. is commemorating its anniversary this year by paying it forward and gifting $5,000 to three local community based organizations in New Jersey. Uneeda Bolt selected NOYN as one of its inaugural recipients due to its long history as a workforce development provider for opportunity youth in Newark. NOYN will use the donation to support the network’s workforce development initiative, YouthBuild Newark.

“YouthBuild Newark is a comprehensive workforce development program that empowers young people to not only change their lives, but the lives of those around them,” said Robert Clark, Chief Executive Officer of NOYN. “Through the support of organizations like Uneeda Bolt, we can continue to provide these services to opportunity youth throughout the city.”

“Uneeda Bolt has a long history of providing high-quality products to communities all throughout the country,” said Eli Brickman, President and Owner of Uneeda Bolt. “We’re proud to celebrate that history by creating the Founder’s Fund and by supporting organizations like NOYN. With NOYN’s roots in YouthBuild and as a construction certification provider, there is natural alignment in the missions of our organizations, and we look forward to a long partnership together.”
